Descript edits a transcript and meters your minutes. Kino starts from the footage: one library of everything you shot, edited by you, your team and your agent.
What Descript is for
Descript is the best way to edit a talking-head video by editing its transcript, and it is a good product for a podcast. Its limits are what it is built on: storage is what you uploaded, metered by the minute; search works inside one project; multicam only works on Rooms and Zoom recordings; and Underlord is billed in credits on top.
What Kino adds
The library comes first
Import footage from a drive, a NAS or a cloud folder. Every clip is transcribed, every face recognized, every shot described. Search what was said or shown across everything you have ever shot.
Agent-native
The project is a folder of code. Claude, Codex or a script reads the whole cut, writes the change, and Kino renders it. Nobody is counting credits.
Multiplayer, with review built in
Two editors in one timeline, each with a cursor. Clients and co-hosts leave notes on the frame from a link, and the notes land on that timeline.
Any footage, any finish
BRAW, R3D and ProRes play without a transcode. Multicam from any cameras, synced by sound. A timeline for DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro when a job needs a finishing suite.

Who should switch, and who shouldn’t
One person talking to a camera, and the edit is deleting words: keep Descript, and watch the meter. More than one camera, footage on drives, and three people with opinions about the cut: import the drive into Kino and ask for the cut.
