Traditional tools make you choose: work with massive files locally, or transcode everything to proxies and lose quality. Kino uses local files when they are available and proxies when they are not.

When you have the files locally

If you’re on the computer where the footage lives, Kino scrubs the original files directly. Your GPU decodes the video in the browser. Drag a 4K file into Kino and start scrubbing immediately.

When you’re remote

If you’re on a different computer, or your teammates are accessing the same project, Kino streams a proxy. The proxy is generated when you upload. Your teammates see the same timeline and cuts. They stream the proxy instead of reading from your drive.
